Historical Note
The Economics Department at Wellesley began in 1890 as the Department of History and Political Economy. In 1895 the name of the department changed to the Department of History and Economics. In 1900, the department split to form two separate departments: the Department of History and the Department of Economics and Sociology. In 1940 the Department of Economics and Sociology again split to form two separate departments, the Department of Economics and the Department of Sociology.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection is made up of accessions that were all given to the Archives by the Economics Department. In 1975, several accessions were processed and rehoused, making up the initial records collection.
