Scope and Contents
Collection includes records of the Wellesley College Health Services from 1877 to 2001, such as information publications it produced (on reproductive health, healthy and unhealthy eating, sexual assault and interpersonal violence, alcohol use, and other health-related subjects), and an article written about "physical culture" at Wellesley. Also includes administrative documents such as communications regarding required medical tests and expenses, and announcements, promotional materials and pamphlets for events. Also includes Annual Reports from the Resident Physician, Consultant in Psychiatry, and Director of Health Services (1957-1983).

Biographical / Historical
In the first years after Wellesley College's opening, the Wellesley College Calendar stated: "A lady physician resides in the College, and gives her personal attention to the supervision of the arrangements connected with the health of the family. She has constant intercourse with the students, and instructs them as to the care of their health and the laws of Hygiene." The first College Physician was Dr. Emily Jones. In 1908 Simpson Cottage was remodeled to serve as a hospital, with rooms for patients and an emergency ward. In 1941 the space was modernized to serve as clinic and infirmary, and expanded off of the original building.
