Collection pertains to the history of the Sociology Department at Wellesley College. Includes subject files (on annual reports, budgets, class lists, course schedules, committee materials, curriculum reviews, departmental correspondence and other administrative documents, lectures, statistics), and course materials (including course surveys, documents on the sociology curriculum, examinations, syllabi, reserve lists and bookstore lists), with some overlap with anthropology.

Biographical / Historical
Sociology was taught at Wellesley beginning in 1900, and was part of a combined Economics and Sociology Department until circa 1940. The first classes were taught by Katharine Coman and Emily Greene Balch.
