Biographical Note
Jean Baker Miller, born in 1927, was a distinguished psychiatrist who in 1976 published the book Toward a New Psychology of Women, a book which drastically altered the conversation on women’s mental health and helped to establish Relational Cultural Theory. In 1981 she was instrumental in founding the Stone Center for Development Services and Studies at Wellesley College which in 1995 would join the Center for Research on Women to become the Wellesley Centers for Women. That same year, the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute was established to educate others on Relational Cultural Theory and Miller herself served as the first director.
