Biographical / Historical

This office has undergone various name changes; in chronological order, they are the Publicity Office (circa 1920s-late 1960s), Information Services (late 1960s-late 1970s), Media Relations (late 1970s-circa 1990s), the Office for Public Affairs (circa early 2000s-early 2010s), and most recently Communications and Public Affairs (mid-2010s-present day). The earliest mention of the work of the Publicity Office in the Wellesley News is a November 25, 1926 article "Miss Johnson Explains the Functions of Press Board" (page 2). The article describes how the Press Board was housed in the Administration Building, in the Office of Publicity, and was tasked with managing distribution of college news to newspapers and making public statements, all under supervision of the Director of Publicity.
