Biographical / Historical

Ernestine Carter was a curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. She started as an assistant curator to Philip Jonhson, Chairman of the Department of Architecture in 1932. When Johnson retired in 1935, Carter took over as curator of the department. She arranged exhibits and was in charge of the museum's publication department, designing typography for the institution.
