Biographical / Historical
Angelina La Piana was a professor in the Italian Department from 1927 to 1956. She wrote many papers on Dante's Divine Comedy. Her monograph "Dante's American Pilgrimage: A Historical Survey of Dante Studies in the United States, 1800-1944," published in 1948, is an examination of scholarship on Dante pre-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and is still cited today. La Piana died in 1970.
