Scope and Content
This series contains materials pertaining to the relationship between Emma DeLong Mills and May-ling Soong Chiang. The series contains primarily correspondence between May-ling Soong Chiang and Emma DeLong Mills, but also cards, envelopes, pamphlets, articles and clippings, and manuscripts by Madame Chiang included in her correspondence, as well as photographs of Emma DeLong Mills and May-ling Soong Chiang. Also included are some letters to Mills from the Soong family, as well as letters from Chiang to Mills' parents. Topics range greatly, from post-graduate life, to personal affairs, to international relations and politics, to political, military, and philanthropic efforts in China, the United States, and other nations. When an item is designated as a copy, location of original is unknown. Materials are dated between 1917 and 1980. The correspondence is arranged chronologically, with letters addressed to Chiang and from Chiang separated until 1945 at which point the correspondence between the two women is interfiled.
Some correspondence has been microfilmed.
