Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Collection consists of the records of graduate students at Wellesley College, dating from 1936 to 2000. Includes a file with multiple small news clippings, press releases, correspndence, and lists of courses taken relating to graduate students Shirley Brander, Geneva Virgina Brill, Annella Braun, Elizabeth J. Cole, Katy Hodgman, Ruth Eleanor McKibbin, Janet Mealy and Jean Merrill. For more biographical information on these alumnae, please refer to the 1942 Record Number of the Wellesley College Bulletin on the Digital Repository (URL: https://repository.wellesley.edu/collections/directories) or contact the Archives at archives@wellesley.edu. Collection also includes: letters home by graduate student Mary Margaret French who attended Wellesley from 1936 to 1937 on scholarship, and received her Master's degree in English Literature; the Alumnae Achievement Award nomination file of June Buchanan who studied at Wellesley from 1916-1918, consisting of news clippings and publications about her career as one of the founders of Alice Lloyd College (originally named Caney Junior College) in Western Kentucky. Also includes a file on Chinese author Xie Wanying (pen name Bing Xin) who earned a Master's degree in literature in 1926, including biographical video CDs (in Mandarin), news coverage, and a list of courses taken at Welleslely, and a March 2021 book by Professor Noriko Makino titled "Xie Bingxin and America," which incorporated the author's 2017 research at the Wellesley College Archives. Also includes the scrapbook of Margaret Elizabeth Moorer, who received her MA in English Literature from Wellesley College in 1941.

Biographical Note

Professor Noriko Makino was a 2017 visiting scholar affiliated with Harvard University for 6 months, during which time she conducted research at the Wellesley College Archives about Chinese and Japanese students at Wellesley College.
