Lusitania medal, circa 1915 May
Scope and Contents
Note reads: "Official medal issued by the German Government at the time of the sinking of the Lusitania. This side of the medal represents a crowd buying tickets for the steamer at the office of the Cunard Line. A skeleton is selling them from a ticket window. The other side of this medal depicts the sinking of the Lusitania, represented as loaded with munitions; and bears the inscription in German: "Der grossdampfer Lusitania durch ein Deutsches Tauchboot versenkt 5 Mai 1915." Translation: "The great steamship Lusitania sunk by a German submarine, 5 May 1915." The Lusitania was actually sunk May 7, 1915."
