Biographical / Historical
This Society was formed in 1892. It was first called the Classics Society. The Society adopted the name Alpha Kappa Chi in 1897. The Society had the goal of providing fellowship and supporting classical studies. The first Alpha Kappa Chi House was built across from Stone Hall and opened in 1903. After the College Hall fire in 1914, it temporarily housed the Philosophy and Psychology Departments. The building was torn down in 1935-1936. A new Alpha Kappa Chi House was built behind the Margaret Clapp Library, and opened in 1924. In 1970, the house became the Harambee House.
