Scope and Contents
Westervelt summarized these materials poignantly in 1995: "Letters from Wellesley from September, 1933 to June, 1935; saved by my mother. She was an elementary school teacher, a widow since my father died in the flu epidemic of 1918, when I was four years old. We were close and good friends."

Biographical / Historical
Virginia Veeder Westervelt transferred to Wellesley College after spending her freshman and sophomore years in California, at Pomona College. She majored in English composition, and went on to earn a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University. She was an author of novels and biographies (8 books total) as well as articles, stories, book reviews, and poetry. She taught English at the high school and college level, including creative writing classes.
