Alumnae: Helen Bryan (general, correspondence), 1955-1977
Scope and Contents
Helen Bryan was the Executive Secretary of the American League for Peace and Democracy in New York, and later the Executive Secretary of the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee, also in New York. When that Committee refused to give the names of contributors to the Spanish Refugee Comittee, the Senate Unamerican Activities Committee cited her with contempt of Congress. Helen was improsoned for three months, and wrote about her experience in prison in a book titled "Inside."
