Scope and Contents
Elizabeth Harriet Hart (nicknamed "Lisch," married name Pennell) was from Louisville, Kentucky. While at Wellesley, she wrote her class' Freshman play, and was the President of the Christian Association, as well as a member of Society Tau Zeta Epsilon (the arts society). Her sister, Clara Avis Hart, was a member of Wellesley's Class of 1913. She went on to be a published poet and taught in small private schools in St. Louis. She also worked overseas in the canteen of the YMCA during World War I, and in the canteen of the Red Cross during World War II. She married Henry Beaumont Pennell, Jr. in 1920. They lived in Bronxville, New York and had two sons and a daughter. In Bronxville she was president of a literary club. She was also president of the Garden Club of Washington, Connecticut (where she spent summers), a trustee of the Public Library, and the secretary of her Parent-Teacher Association.
