Scope and Contents
Series I. consists mainly of class notes and papers (some post-Wellesley). Also includes examinations for admission from Harvard, Princeton and Yale, a 1900 commencement notice and program, and a play list of The Tempest (1900).

Biographical / Historical
Martha Mabelle Ames (married name Chirurg) was from Ottawa, Illinois. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from Radcliffe College in 1902. She taught in Dedham, Massachusetts from 1903-1905, and married Michael Chirurg in 1905. They had one son. She was included in the 1914-1915 Women's Who's Who of America, which gives this information: She was born in Illinois, April 10, 1878; she had a life membership in the Collegiate Alumnae Association; she was a supporter of women's suffrage, and a member of the College Equal Suffrage Leage of Massachusetts; she was Unitarian, and enjoyed opera and drama.
