Correspondence in the series describes Mills' travels, activities, and opinions, including those about art and literature, cultural and social issues surrounding World War I and II, Chinese-American relations, and the impact of Communism and Communist thought on East Asian nations. Correspondents of note include Carson McCullers; her brother DeLong Mills on active duty with the U.S. Navy during World War II; Annabel P'u, wife to the younger brother of China's last emperor; and other Chinese and American officials. The series consists primarily of letters, with some cards, photographs, and articles, clippings, and pamphlets that have been included by correspondents. Materials in this series encompass the years 1915-1986.
